In my opinion it does a better job converting nef raw files than Photoshop although it does not have nearly the same capability. NX-D is fairly capable once accustom to it but its not a high end editor. It will not do adjustments to localized image areas as NX2 does. In some ways NX-D is step backwards from Capture NX2. I have downloaded the instruction manual but find it overly complicated and hard to follow. I hope that Nikon and NikSoftware eventually finally will decide to make it possible to use all of NikSooftwares plugins from within NX2.
